DERIDDER – A DeRidder man died Tuesday night in a one-vehicle crash in Beauregard Parish.

State Police said Richard C. West, 45, died when the 2000 Ford pickup truck he was driving on Pleasant Hill Road ran off the road when the road surface changed from asphalt to packed gravel.

West overcorrected and the truck ran off the road again, went through a ditch and rolled several times before hitting a large pine tree on the passenger side.

West, who was the only occupant of the truck, not wearing a seat belt, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Excessive speed and impairment are suspected to be factors in the crash.
