2012 is the year Louisiana celebrates its 200th anniversary as a state. On April 30, 1812, Louisiana was admitted as a state. It was the eighteenth state to join the Union and William Charles Cole Claiborne was elected as the first Governor.
The celebration began with events happening from North Louisiana to the very tip of the boot, with grand parties held on the Capitol grounds.
Coordinators of the Louisiana Bicentennial reported these ceremonies were a great way to educate students, about our great state and encourage tourism.
The Gueydan Museum has always celebrated different seasons and holidays and is proud to announce they recognizes Louisiana’s 200 birthday with a display of a Bicentennial Birthday Tree.
