On Jan. 22, Dyson allegedly was standing outside of the Nino Bar on State Street in Abbeville and allegedly beat up an 80-year-man, who refused to give a spare buck before he walked into the bar.
The 80-year-old man was allegedly jumped by Dyson as he was about to walk into the bar. He was beat up and Dyson allegedly stole his wallet that had $400 in it.
The night before, the victim gave Dyson a $1 before he entered the bar.
The Abbeville Police Department began investigating the robbery by asking those in the bar if they knew who beat up and robbed the 80-year-old victim.
Abbeville Police Detective Ryan Boutte also showed the 80-year-old victim mug shots of possible criminals but was getting nowhere.
The break came when Dyson allegedly was involved in another burglary in Abbeville where a tip led to the questioning of Dyson. The police received a tip that Dyson knocked on a woman’s home, told her he has a gun and demanded her purse. He fled the house with the purse.
Boutte said he never thought about including Dyson in his mug shot lineup until the department received the tip.
Boutte called the 80-year-old victim to see if he could visit the police station to look at more mugs, which included Dyson’s.
On Friday, when the 80-year-old man was walking in the police station, Dyson was also brought into the station for questioning. The 80-year-old recognized Dyson in the police station as the person who allegedly robbed and beat him up, Boutte said.
Dyson was charged with aggravated robbery and his bail was set at $50,000. He was also charged with robbery for the home burglary and now sits in the parish jail as of Tuesday.
Boutte said this is the not the first time David has been arrested by the Abbeville Police Department since 2000. He has a long list of arrests such as theft and forgery.
