Bataan Death March survivor

MONROE – Services will be Friday for Bataan Death March survivor J.C. Pardue. He died June 25 at age 94.

Pardue was a member of the U.S. Air Force 27th Bombardment Group in the Philippines when Bataan fell in April 1942 and was one of thousands of Japanese prisoners marched 55 miles to a POW camp. He spent three years in POW camps and when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima he was a slave laborer in a mill in Kyushu, Japan.

He left the military in 1949 and went on to a career in accounting, retiring from Commercial Solvents Corp. in Sterlington.

Survivors include his wie Demaris and two daughters.

Arrangements are by Mulhearn.

Former coach, teacher

NEW IBERIA – Services for retired coach and teacher Laura Belanger will be Saturday. She died June 25 at age 82.

Her teams won two state basketball championships at Mt. Carmel Academy. She also taught at elementary schools in New Iberia.

Survivors include a son and two daughters.

Arrangements are by Pellerin.

Teacher, supervisor

GRAND COTEAU – Services for former teacher, education supervisor and ULL faculty member Shirley Lagneaux will be Friday. She died June 24 at age 100.

She was a former teacher in Eunice and Sunset and was Primary and Elementary Supervisor for St. Landry Parish. She taught education, primary teacher and teacher training at ULL.
