State Representative Simone Champagne of Jeanerette congratulated Raven Myers upon receiving the 2012 Educational Advancement Opportunity Scholarship.

Entering into the foster system at the age of 12, Raven has overcome an adverse childhood with the help of her guardians. Raven has earned numerous academic honors, such as: highest average awards, literary rally places, scholastic banquet participation, and the Bausch and Lomb Science award. Additionally, as a 4.0 student, Raven was the valedictorian of her senior class. She also had legislative experience as a senator at Louisiana Girls’ State. Most recently, Raven placed first in Business Procedures at the Future Business Leaders of America State Convention, qualifying her for nationals this summer. She was a national Merit Achievement Semi-finalist and is a Horatio Alger National Scholar.

Representative Champagne extended congratulations to Raven and said, "I am proud to see young women in Louisiana, such as Raven, overcoming obstacles and becoming well-rounded and educated members of our state. It is my hope that this scholarship will further help her to reach her goals and educational opportunities."

Raven, who recently graduated from Delcambre High School, received the scholarship, which is meant to broaden the educational opportunities available to young women in Louisiana, from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation at the Women of Excellence Awards and Scholarship Gala.
