ERATH - The Erath Fourth of July kicked off its activities this past Saturday and Sunday by having its 17th Annual Fourth of July Bar-B-Que Cookoff and its baby pageant contest.

Both events took place in the Erath City Park.

This past Saturday, the baby pageant took place and there were a record number of entries.

The day was also filled with contests -- watermelon eating, ice cream eating and potato relays -- as well as arts and crafts and the vintage car show.

The baby contest got underway at 9 a.m. and concluded at 11:30 a.m. See Page 6 for the photos of the top three finishers.

Winners of Saturday’s baby contest are: Division 1 Girls: (Alyssa Sikes): Division I Boys (Maddox Menard), Division II Girls (Lilly Noel), Division II Boys (Lyeton Jones); Division III Girls (Alayna Henry) and Boys (Carter Boutte), Division IV Girls (Aidyn Grace LeBlanc) and Boys (Jayden Ryals) winners.

Then on Sunday, Erath City Park was busy once again with church being held outside and then concluded with the bar-b-que.

Sunday was also filled with contests -- watermelon eating, ice cream eating and potato relays -- as well as arts and crafts and the vintage car show.

The bar-b-que cook-off had four categories - beef, pork, chicken and crowning one grand champion.

This year the judges were blessed to judge every thing from bar-b-qued Filet Mignon, which took home first place in the beef division. The team named “339 Feed Q-ing Team” cooked “Zesty Filet.”

The top chef on the filet was Bo Bernard. One of the judges said,” “It melted in your mouth.”

The 339 team also had two other first places and a grand champion.

In pork division, first place went to 339 with Matt Hebert being the top chef. He cooked Thai Ribs.

His ribs were also voted the grand champions in the cook-off. It is the second year in a row he won his division with the ribs.

He is the defending grand champion. He won in the chicken division.

Bo is not the only one who can cook in the Bernard family. His wife, Brooke, can brag she is also a first place winner. Brooke cooked bar-be-que shrimp which took home top honors in the open division.

The one division Team 339 did not win was the chicken. That went to Toups AC and Electrical. The top chefs were Scott Toups and Trey d’ Augereau. They won with Chicken in Bacon.

Kim Palambo was the overall winner in the dessert and pie categories. She cooked a “Maw Maw Fig Cake” and a “Strawberry Pecan Pie” that both took first places.
