Felder and deGraauw married in Abbeville

Lauren Elizabeth deGraauw and Robert Douglas Felder were united in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony on Friday, May 20, 2011, at Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville, Louisiana. The Reverend Father Michael J. Russo officiated the evening Nuptial Mass.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Robert deGraauw, Jr. of Abbeville. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Claude Veglia of New Orleans and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Robert deGraauw, Sr. of Abbeville. She is a graduate of Vermilion Catholic High School and attended Louisiana State University, including overseas study in Hawaii, completing the Bachelor of Science degree in Business. Additionally, she is a recent graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, having obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics. The bride is currently employed by Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in the Dietary Department and will begin an internship at the Tulane University School of Public Health in September.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Sharon Smith Felder and Mr. Thomas Harrison Powers of Lafayette and Dr. and Mrs. Darryl Lambert Felder of Lafayette. He is the grandson of Mrs. Anna Yust Kirn of Houston, Texas, the late Mr. James Wagner Smith of Houson, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Arnold Felder of New Braunfels, Texas. The groom is a graduate of Teurlings Catholic High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He later graduated from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University, receiving the Juris Doctor degree and the Diploma in Civil Law. He is an attorney employed with the firm of Davidson, Meaux, Sonnier McElligott, Fonteno, Gideon and Edwards in Lafayette.

Escorted by her father, the bride wore a fully beaded light ivory satin gown with lace appliqué and a chapel length train. The strapless trumpet silhouette dress featured a scooped sweetheart neckline edged with crystal beading. Completing the bride’s ensemble was a single tier ivory fingertip veil, edged with silver embroidery and beading. She carried a bouquet of calla lilies, vendella roses, sweet scented stock, lisianthus and phalaenopsis orchids in shades white, cream and ivory. Her maternal grandmother’s rosary was interlaced into her bouquet.

Serving as Matron of Honor was Elizabeth Listi Prather, lifelong friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Dr. Kelly Schwartzenburg Cannon, Jeanette Toups Chauvin, Michelle Trahan Carson, Amy Grace Miller and Jessica Chatelain, all friends of the bride; and Felicia Gatipon Rylee and Jennifer Gaitpon Taffaro, cousins of the bride. Flower girls were Kaylin Taffaro and Elizabeth Rylee, cousins of the bride.

Best Man was Kevin Reed, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Justin Trahan, Travis Hargrave, Wesley Ducote and Dr. David Story, all friends of the groom; Daniel Felder and First Lieutenant Eric Felder, brothers of the groom; Frank deGraauw III and Matthew deGraauw, brothers of the bride. Ring bearer was Clayton Geist, nephew of the groom.

Ushers were Wayne Martin and Steve Rabalais, friends of the groom. Gift bearers were Helene Gatipon, godmother of the bride, and Sandra Collier, godmother of the groom. Readers were Michael Taffaro, cousin of the bride, and Thomas Powers, stepfather of the groom.

Music for the ceremony was performed by vocalists Mark and Kristen Dunbar, friends of the bride. Accompanists were organist Tommy Guidry, violinist Yang Yang Li and trumpeter Jared Gray.

A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s family the evening before the wedding, honoring the couple at Abacus in Lafayette. Following the wedding ceremony, a reception was held at Black’s in Abbeville. After a honeymoon in Belize, the couple will reside in Lafayette.
