Friday morning at 10:30, officers of the Abbeville Police Department responded to a call at JB Express located at 1200 S. State for a possible robbery.
Upon officers arriving, they located a female in hysterics with apparent injuries to the face and left forearm.
Upon officers speaking to the female, she advised them a man armed with a knife came into her store, jumped the counter, beat her, striking her in the face with the knife. Then the person forced her to open the register, and took money from the register then fled out the store.
Based on the description the victim/clerk gave, officers were able to identify a suspect by photo line up as well as in-store security video and a short time later were able to locate the suspect at another near-by store and arrest him.
Arrested was Tracy Harris, 48, of Abbeville and he was charged with armed robbery and possession of crack cocaine.
The victim was transported to Abbeville General Hospital by Acadian Ambulance where she was treated for her injuries.
Abbeville Police Chief Tony Hardy would like to commend all the officers involved for their response and team work in the apprehension of the suspect.
