Kaplan held a slim 11-10 lead after the first period of regulation, but the Lady Pirates fell of a bit in the second quarter to trail 22-18 at the break.
The Lady Pirates seemed somewhat lethargic at times in the first half, but came out of the locker room in the second half ready to play.
Lady Pirates head coach Danielle Green chalked up any perceived lack of enthusiasm early in the game to the drain of a long season.
“They’re a good group of girls,” said Green. “Sometimes, I guess they just need a little bit of a boost.”
Kaplan out-scored the Lumberjills 12-8 in the third quarter and were trailing 36-30 in the waning minutes of the game when Lady Pirate Lacey Perro stepped up to score six-straight points, four of which came off her own steals, for Kaplan to force overtime.
“Lacey helped us out a lot,” said Green. “She came through big time with that little run.”
In the overtime period, it was all Lady Pirates, as the home team doubled up Patterson 12-6.
Brittany LeBeouf, Kailey LeJeune and Perro all scored twos in the extra period, while Hillary Primeaux dropped in a three-pointer.
Primeaux also went 2-for-2 at the free-throw line in overtime, while LeBeouf was 1-for-2.
Brittany LeBeouf led the Lady Pirates with 15 points. Perro and Hillary Primeaux had 11 points each, Yasmyn Cobb had six points, Kailey LeJeune scored four points and Laura Turnley got one point.
With the win, the Lady Pirates (8-15, 4-4) snap a four-game losing streak. Kaplan next heads to Franklin (4-16, 1-7) on Friday, Feb. 3 to take on the Lady Hornets.
Green said she hopes her players get off to a quicker start on the road Friday than they did at home against Patterson.
“That’s a long trip,” she said about the drive out to Franklin. “But, they are a good team. If they’re ready to play, then they’ll play... I know they’re getting tired. They’re practicing a lot right now. We’re trying to minimize and go down on our practices (so as) not to wear them out.”
“It’s just getting to that point.”
