Governor Jindal's new book, "Leadership and Crisis," describes a visit to the white House to discuss the possibility of implementing the moratorium with President Obama. Ignoring our governor's concerns regarding the economic effects of the moratorium on state citizens, the president limited his focus to how his friends on the extreme left would respond. Apparently his analysts figured a drilling ban would be best received by his base voters. And voila, policy was made.
Unfortunately, this course of action has achieved what Jindal feared. The energy produced off the Gulf Coast amounts to 31 percent of domestically produced oil and 11 percent of natural gas used to offer affordable energy to the nation, yet we are treated like second class citizens when one rogue foreign company makes a regrettable blunder.
The Obama administration's decision to drastically cut our jobs and continue to do so despite claiming to have lifted the moratorium by withholding permits, is a slap in the face to our region. Not only do we offer the nation desired energy security, but we send billions annually into federal coffers as a result of our thriving industry. Mr. President, give us our jobs back or give our state the revenue back.
