Jonathan Aaron Matthews, a 2010 graduate of Abbeville High School, has been chosen as recipient of The Anthony J. Fontana - Ronney D. Mayard Memorial Music Scholarship.

While a member of the AHS Symphonic Band, he was selected to play in the Vermilion Parish Honor Band (three years) and the District Honor Band (4 years). He was also a member of the AHS Wildcat Marching Band and the award-winning AHS Jazz Band.

As a child, Jonathan was influenced to play music by his musician uncle and later was inspired to become a band director after viewing the movie Mr. Holland’s Opus.

He is presently enrolled at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as a music education major and a tuba player in the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Marching Band.
