NV wrestlers place at state meet on weekend

Three NV wrestlers placed in at least the top six in their respective weight classes at the LHSAA State Wrestling Meet this weekend in Kenner.

The highest finishing Patriot was junior Austin Scalisi, who placed third in the 120-pound weight class.

Scalici, who was the 5th seed in the bracket thanks to a 19-13 regular season record, pinned his opponent in :46 in the first round to advance. He lost by major decision 12-2 in the second round, however, to move to the conso0lation bracket.

Scalisi then won his third match by major decision 20-8 and his final match by a 7-1 decision to place third.

NV senior Tim Baudoin, who was the number one seed in the 152-pound wight class thanks to a 20-6 record, placed sixth.

After a first-round bye, Baudoin won his second-round match by a 16-5 major decision. He lost by an 11-5 decision in the third round and moved to the consolation bracket, but would not win another match.

NV sixth-grader Rhett Maturin earned sixth place in the 106-pound weight class.

Maturin won his first match by 13-4 major decision, but lost in the second round by an 8-6 decision. He won his next two matches by pins, but finally lost to the eventual third-place wrestler.
