No one wants to sit on the sidelines, skipping the traditional football food. But, no one wants to deal with the postgame regrets, either.
You can work football-fan food into your Super Bowl Sunday without padding your own end zone!
The Super Bowl is the biggest calorie fest of the year. The average football fan eats about a days worth of calories during the game. But you can reduce added calories with these suggestions.
Here are a few delicious snacks to add to your menu that are equally delicious and nutritious…so enjoy!
–Seven Layer Dip: The refried beans add fiber, the guacamole and olives supply heart-healthy fats, and the lettuce and tomatoes add some bulk but with very few calories.
Use fat-free cheese and low-fat sour cream. (No one will notice the difference.)
–Chili: Diced onions sautéed in olive oil provide a dose of Vitamin C, and folate. Add black beans. The darker the beans, the more antioxidants. Make sure there are more beans than meat for maximum fiber.
For more antioxidants, add lots of chili powder and cumin.
–Veggie Tray: Serve with hummus in delicious flavors like roasted red pepper or garlic herb. Skip the ranch dressing and opt for fat-free yogurt.
–Veggie Skewers: These are a very easy and delicious option if you are bar-be-cuing. Chop up large portions of all your favorite vegetables—mushrooms, red peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, etc.
Sprinkle them with olive oil and a favorite spice and then place them on the grill.
–Popcorn: Keep a large bowl of air-popped popcorn in arms reach, rather than that bag of Doritos. For an added kick, drizzle on Tabasco.
Any gathering is meant to be fun, both for your guests and for you. So keep it simple, but keep it healthy at the same time.
These simple snack options with healthier twists will keep your appetite at bay, without adding extra inches to your waistline.
