Task Force arrests Abbeville woman after traffic stop

The Vermilion / Municipal Narcotics division made one arrest while working criminal Patrol in the Abbeville area.

Agents made an attempt to make a traffic stop near Lyman and Lafayette when the driver of the vehicle stopped but as soon as agents exited the vehicle the driver drove off again. After following the vehicle for approximately 10 blocks agents along with the assistance of the Abbeville Police Department, got the vehicle stopped. Upon removing the driver, Torraine Brown, (dob3-18-79) of Abbeville, and placing her in a unit, one agent noticed he attempting to remove something and shove it in the back seat of the police unit. At this time agents located a pill bottle with suspected marijuana, crack cocaine, and several prescription Lortab pills. Brown was taken into custody and charged with possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute a schedule III narcotic and possession of marijuana. Brown was also issued citations for her traffic violations. Total bond was set at $41,000.

Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, Kaplan Mayor Kirk Champagne, Abbeville Chief of Police Tony Hardy and Kaplan Chief Boyd Adams “I realize times are financially tough all over, but the Mayors and Chiefs of these cities are committed to finding the funds to help the Task Force combat the illicit drugs problem that ruins our communities. The people of Vermilion and our children are the benefactors of these city leaders’ great efforts. It is my hope that in the near future other towns and cities in the parish of Vermilion will be able to assist in the continuing fight against illicit drugs.”
