Not in the mood to cook Sunday afternoon? For $10, you can eat anything from gumbo, bar-b-que, duck or dumplings at the VC-Carmel May Fest Open Cook-Off Tailgate Party.

To kick-off Catholic Schools Week, the cook-off will take place in the parking lot of Vermilion Catholic.

There are 19 teams scheduled to cook a variety of things.

If anyone wants to enter a team, they have until today at 3 p.m. Call VC at 893-6636 to enquire.

Judging for the cook-off will be done by the public. When a person pays $10 to try all of the dishes, the person will be given three tickets. If the person likes a certain dish, the chef will be awarded a ticket.

The team with the most tickets will win a first-place trophy.

Cooking will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The dishes will be ready to serve the public at noon.

While everyone is cooking, the crowd will be entertained by Kaplan’s Nichole Marceaux and her band.

There will also be fun jumps and face painting for the children.

The event is being sponsored by Gulf Coast Chemical, Gulf Crown Seafood, and Jimmy & Paulette King.
