New Iberia — Funeral service will be held for Verlis Allen, 68, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday July 14, 2012 at Fletcher Funeral Home Chapel, New Iberia, LA with Rev. Francis Davis officiating. She will await the resurrection at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church Cemetery, Delcambre, LA.

A gathering of family and friends will begin on Saturday at the funeral home 7 a.m. until the time of service.

A native of Delcambre, LA and resident of New Iberia, LA she passed at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday at Consolata Nursing Center in New Iberia, LA.

She was a member of West End Bibleway Christian Fellowship Church. She was employed at Connie’s Seafood as a cook for many years. She also enjoyed watching the Food Network Channel, soap operas and doing crossword puzzles. She was a very quiet person, however she spoke what was on her mind.

She leaves to mourn her passing, four brothers, Ulysses Earl Allen, Herbert Dennis Allen (Angelina) and Eric Paul Allen (Valerie) all of New Iberia, LA and Larry James Allen of Kaplan, LA; five sisters, Jacqueline Roberts and Gloria Allen of Houston, TX, Marlene Allen (Rene) and Beverly Toussaint (Michael) of New Iberia, LA and Delores Ruffin of Abbeville, LA; several godchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ulysses Allen, Sr., and Agnes Derouen Allen; four sisters, Ann Grace Williams, Amelia Green, Linda Ann Comeaux and Gayle Marie Antoine; four brothers, Ricky Paul Allen, Mervin John Allen, Charles Joseph Allen and Ulysses Allen, Jr.

Active pallbearers will be Matthew Allen, Jacoby Jenkins, Paul Greene, Jr., Howard Celestine, Christian Antoine and Troy Nicholas.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Greene, Creig White, Ulysses D. Allen, Rickey Allen, Robert Conner, Jr. and Rene Phillips.
