AGL’s statements are from their web site and under is the truth *
The more you know, the
More the expansion of
Jefferson Island Storage
& Hub makes sense.

********The more you know, the
More the expansion of
Jefferson Island Storage
& Hub makes no sense!!!
WHAT IS BEING PROPOSED?
Natural gas is currently stored in two salt caverns located beneath Lake Peigneur in Iberia Parish with an operations center in Vermilion Parish. AGL Resources, through its business unit Pivotal Energy Development, owns and operates Jefferson Island Storage &Hub (JISH).The proposed JISH expansion would add two caverns next to the existing caverns. Instead of two caverns, there would be four.
********September 9, 2009, Company representatives said they could not promise that no additional caverns would be built after this project. Jefferson Island Storage and Hub has been appealing its assessment for about three years.

IS THIS PROJECT SAFE?
Absolutely. Salt dome caverns have been in use for more than 60 years. There have never been incidents of fires, releases or explosions in caverns developed solely for natural gas storage. There are more than 100 salt dome caverns used for natural gas storage in the Gulf Coast region. There also are more than a dozen proposals for new salt cavern projects in the region, and expansions are being undertaken at other existing fields.
And from AGL Resources’ Form 10-K filed with the SEC “TRANSPORTING AND STORING NATURAL GAS INVOLVES NUMEROUS RISKS THAT MAY RESULT IN ACCIDENTS AND OTHER OPERATING RISKS AND COSTS”
********December 29, 2010, a natural gas leak at the Williams underground salt dome storage facility on Salt Dome Road in Eminence, Mississippi, made the news. According to several reports, the gas leak migrated to water well and “actually blew the well out.” Some 25 families had to be evacuated from their homes

WHAT ABOUT THE IMPACT ON WATER RESOURCES?
The amount of water needed to create the caverns will be equivalent to water used annually by any two to three large agricultural or industrial wells already in the area. There are more than 50 such wells in a five-mile radius that already tap the Chicot Aquifer, and none have damaged the aquifer. Some of the existing wells use twice the annual volume proposed by JISH and, unlike most of the current users, JISH would only draw water for about four years.
********October 2, 2009, the Regional manager for LAWCO (Louisiana Water Company) said “Increased withdrawal from the Chicot Aquifer by AGL’s proposed well-pumping would significantly accelerate the rate of potential contaminates from the known contamination source to New Iberia”. http://www.iberianet.com/articles/2009/10/03/news/doc4ac647098a322368606012.txt
WHY ARE SOME PEOPLE OPPOSED TO THIS PROJECT?
Some residents have voiced concerns. Twenty-six years ago, Texaco drilled into a salt mine below the lake. They remember that incident and the damage done to the lake when it occurred. Today, companies no longer operate salt mines under Lake Peigneur.
********AGL Resources states one thing and facts state another!! What is real?
WHY SHOULD PEOPLE CARE ABOUT THIS PROJECT?
This project is environmentally safe. Natural gas storage facilities like JISH help keep natural gas supplies flowing during weather-related disruptions like Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005 and help ensure dependable supplies of natural gas for communities in Louisiana and across the country.
We are a Fortune 1000 energy services holding company whose principal business is the distribution of natural gas in six states – Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, Tennessee and Virginia.

This proposed expansion project also means jobs, local spending and an estimated $22million in new local and state economic development revenues during the construction phase alone. (According to a study done by LSU Shreveport’s Center for Business and Economic Research)
********The facility will provide jobs, creating up to 136 during construction and 11 permanent positions after construction. http://www.aglresources.com/about/gt/econ_benefits.aspx
