BATON ROUGE – A day after LSU’s 24-21 win over Alabama, Tiger defensive tackle Drake Nevis was recognized by the Walter Camp Foundation as the National Defensive Player of the Week.

Nevis, a senior from Marrero, was a key component of a Tiger defense that held Alabama to just 102 rushing yards, including 30 in the second half. Alabama Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram was held to 97 yards and one TD on 21 carries.

Nevis led the charge for the Tiger defense, picking up seven tackles and one sack for 8-1 LSU. Nevis also added a forced fumble, one quarterback hurry and broke up a pass in the victory. Nevis’ forced fumble came midway through the fourth quarter and led to an LSU field goal that put the Tigers up 24-14 with just over five minutes left in the contest.

For the year, Nevis ranks third on the LSU team with 47 tackles, which includes a team-high 12.5 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks. Nevis has also forced three fumbles and intercepted a pass. Nevis, who is a semifinalist for the Lombardi Award, has been named the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week a league-high three times this year.

TCU quarterback Andy Dalton earned offensive player of the week honors from the Foundation for his performance in the Frogs’ 47-7 win over Utah.
