Thinking about raiding a few crawfish traps in hopes of getting free crawfish for Thanksgiving? You may want to think again because it could land you in jail.

Steven Alan Roy recently learned the hard way how stealing crawfish is against the law.

Roy was recently sentenced to three years in jail for stealing crawfish in access of $500 which is a felony. However, all of his three years were suspended because of a plea agreement he reached with the state.

Roy was placed on supervised probation and he must pay a restitution of $780 to Richard Luquette, who lives on La. 693. Roy is expected to pay Richard $32.50 a month for 24 months.

Roy could have been sentenced to five years in prison for stealing $500 worth of crawfish.
