The Vermilion / Municipal Narcotics Task Force along with the Sheriff’s Criminal Patrol K-9 division seized over one pound of marijuana this week which led to the seizure of more illicit narcotics in a neighboring parish.

After receiving information that illicit narcotics were being delivered into the parish, agents contacted Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division and began gathering evidence through surveillance to ascertain who was making the delivery and how much of the product was being brought into the parish.

The criminal patrol K-9 division conducted a traffic stop on Fransico Garay (DOB 7-7-63) of Bob Rd. Lot #24 in New Iberia.

Upon further investigating, agents seized over one pound of marijuana with a street sale value of over $2500, and drug proceed monies.

Garay has been charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. No bond has been set at this time. Iberia Parish Narcotics Division, utilizing this information along with other evidence conducted three search warrants within the parish of Iberia which yielded the seizure of 1,937 grams of marijuana; 281 grams of cocaine, multiple prescription pills, $159,000 in alleged drug proceed money and two vehicles.

Charged for those crimes were Jose Zepeda and Juan Acuna of the same address.

Sheriff Mike Couvillon, Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, Kaplan Mayor Kirk Champagne, Abbeville Chief of Police Tony Hardy and Kaplan Chief Boyd Adams commend the Narcotics Task Force for a job well done.
