The Eagles are now set to compete in the LHSAA Boys State Golf Tournament at Atchafalaya Golf Course in Patterson on May 3-4.
VC’s team total of 336 was plenty low enough to eclipse second-place Westminster Christian Academy’s 354 total.
Westminster in turn just edged Ascension Episcopal’s 355 strokes.
Head Coach Joseph Vallee’s team boasted four scores in the 80s to take home the first-place trophy.
Joshua Wilson anchored VC with an 82. Colby Berberick notched an 83 and Aaron David shot an 84.
Ryan David’s 87 completed the Eagles’ winning team total.
Wilson’s 82 had him in third as qualifying medalist, while Berberick finished fifth.
Westminster and Ascension Episcopal each had a player post a score in the 70s, but the Eagles’ team effort carried them.
“They’ve had a solid season,” said Assistant Coach Joseph Berberich, “a solid year, all year.”
He said that two of the Eagles missed playing time because of baseball, causing forfeits early on, and making the run to state all the more remarkable.
Berberich said that VC’s fifth player, Tyler Lege, “played hard as a freshman.”
The Eagles’ alternate player, Nick Hollier, “had a good golf season,” he said.
VC placed third in the Acadiana Golf League Championship at Squirrel Run.
With the win in Kinder, the team earned the earned the right to host next year’s Region 2-1A tournament.
