At a recent meeting of the Cajun Cultural Association the organization made a $2,000 contribution to help with the tuition expenses of students attending the 2011 summer French immersion study program in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The Acadian Centre Acadien and Abbeville Cultural & Historical Alliance jointly awarded scholarships to two Vermilion Parish students, for five weeks of French immersion study at the University Sainte Anne, located in Church Point (Pointe-de-L’Eglise), Nova Scotia (Nouvelle-Ecosse), Canada. This is the fifth year the Russell Gaspard Memorial French Immersion Scholarship has been awarded to Vermilion Parish students.

The Abbeville Cultural and Historical Alliance (Museum & Art Gallery) is located in the Vermilion Parish Veterans Memorial Building (200 North Magdalen Square), in historical downtown Abbeville. The Alliance museum has standing exhibits of interest to visitors, featuring permanent and changing exhibits provided by its members, the Acadian Centre Acadien, Giant Omelette Celebration, Vermilion Historical Society, and Vermilion Arts Council.
