Eight Vermilion Parish high school students learned about health-care professions from May 30 – June 10, 2011 while participating in the “A-HEC of a Summer Program.” Various health care professionals from Abbeville General Hospital served as mentors for students by showing and telling the students about their jobs. The goal of the “A-HEC of a Summer” program was to provide opportunities for high school students to work in a health care environment and to expose high school students to career opportunities in health care, to provide high school students with positive health care role models, and to educate high school students about skills and requirements necessary for pursuing a health care profession. Medical professionals from the surrounding community who also hosted students were Dr. Ronald Lahasky, Dr. Stephen Trahan, Dr. David Trahan, Dr. Claud Fallis, Dr. Tricia Lege, Mr. Todd Rodrigue, Dr. Amy Rambaugh-Durr, Dr. Rowdy Abshire, Dr. Kim Bradley, and Dr. Samuel Thibodeaux. Mrs. Jenni Frick served as the instructor for the program.
