GUEYDAN - The thrill of Friday night football is not dead in Gueydan. The threat of loosing the Gueydan High School football program has come around again, but through the diligent efforts of the GHS coaching staff and high school students that are giving their time to the early morning summer heat, the threat is no longer.

According to GHS football coach Jay Landry Gueydan will have a team this year.

Landry states, “Our numbers are low and we are very young and inexperienced. Very small schools such as Gueydan go through these cycles. The number of boys in the high school is low. We are geared to look to the future and keep our program going. After the success of the past ten to twelve years we hope to build upon that foundation with an eye to the future. Success in football is a maturation process in both the mental and physical attributes. Our goals this season are to compete and be better each week. Our early season schedule is not as difficult as in years past, but district will be very tough as most teams are mature, experienced, and physically capable. We thank our community for its support. Our young men give a lot of effort and support means everything”

So for all the folks that have been wondering...there will be Friday night lights again this year!
