The bridge that crosses the Vermilion River in Perry may close on Tuesday or may not. That decision will be made depending on the weather, announced the Department of Transportation and Development.
The bridge was scheduled to close Tuesday for five weeks to repair mechanical equipment on the bridge.
With Tropical Storm Lee making landfall Sunday and bringing with it lots of rain, the starting day to repair the bridge could be pushed back a few days.
If the weather is clear and it is not raining on Tuesday, contractors are expected to begin work on the bridge. But if there is a chance or rain or it’s raining on Tuesday, contractors will push back closing of the bridge.
This will be the second bridge DOTD has worked on in the parish that crosses the Vermilion River. Earlier in the year, the bridge in downtown Abbeville was worked on.
DOTD is giving drivers an alternate route .
Because of the bridge closure, expect traffic to be heavy on La. 335 (the street passing in front of Richard’s Crawfish) and Pumping Plant Road.
Another route to travel to Esther, Pecan Island or Intracoastal City is by going on La. 35. In Kaplan, La. 35 travels to Forked Island.
