The homecoming crowd in Delcambre was treated to something special Friday night, as the Panthers (2-3, 0-0) earned a 35-0 shutout victory over the visiting Gators of Ascension Episcopal.

“Our defensive front line did a real good job,” said Panther Head Coach Darcy Delcambre. “They put a lot more pressure on them and we tackled a lot better.”

Panther running back Jace Dore notched the first two touchdowns for Delcambre with short rushes early in the second quarter and late in the third.

He finished with 124 yards on 15 carries.

“We ran the ball well,” said Coach Delcambre. “Christian (Umphries), Ashton (Eastin) and Chet McGee all had 50-something yards, so that was a help.”

Delcambre quarterback Robert Primeaux tacked on two more rushing TD’s in the fourth quarter and running back Chet McGee added the final score with 4:28 remaining in the game.

Primeaux was 1-for-1 passing for 13 yards.

The Gators’ only real scoring threat came on a 37-yard field goal attempt late in the third period, but the Ascension kicker missed on the chance.

Coach Delcambre said his teams wins in the last two weeks are a positive sign heading into next week’s District 6-2A opener at Jeanerette (2-3, 0-0). That game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday, Oct. 7.
