Troopers say the investigation was actually started by Iberia Parish detectives. They were investigating illegal use of child pornography and suspected one of their own deputies was involved. State Police was immediately contacted to take over the investigation.
State Police say 32-year-old Daniel Bourque of Erath was downloading images depicting child pornography. Several agencies were involved in making the arrest including State Police, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Investigations, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Detectives say more than 100 images and movies which depicted child pornography were retrieved from digital storage media devices at Bourque’s home.
He was booked on 100 counts of Possession of Child Pornography.
Detectives do not believe any of the images were downloaded while Bourque was working in his official capacity as a deputy for the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal said he will continue his stance by not showing any leniency on law enforcement officers who break the law.
“I hold my Deputies to a very high standard and when one crosses the line between right and wrong, I will use all of my authority to ensure justice is enforced” states Sheriff Louis Ackal. The deputy’s employment with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Department was terminated immediately at the time of his arrest. This case still remains under investigation and detectives are not ruling out the possibility additional charges.
