The first day of action in the annual Lady Pats tournament saw two parish teams advance and two fall into the consolation bracket.

Abbeville’s Lady Wildcats dropped game one to perennial powerhouse Iota 74-34. The Wildcats were to face St. Martinville on Tuesday, with Westminster awaiting the winner in the consolation bracket. No Tuesday results were available as of press time.

Elaina Baytop and Derrion Nolan led the way for Abbeville with 10 points each.

Jasmine Dozier had six points for the Lady Wildcats, while Mallory Plaisance had four. Bianca Levy and Dyantae Perkins each had two points.

Erath and Delcambre faced off in game four on Monday, with the Lady Bobcats taking out the short-handed Lady Panthers 63-41.

Delcambre head coach Lisa Richard said that, despite Delcambre’s having eight players total on the team, she would make no excuses.

“It’s a concern,” said Richard of the light numbers. “But, it’s all we’re going to have all year... We’re going to get out there and fight every game.”

Finally, the NV Lady Pats won a 48-47 thriller over Comeaux in the final game of the evening, setting up an Erath – NV clash Tuesday night.

The Lady Pats led 24-14 at the half and built a 34-18 lead in the third before allowing the Lady Spartans to see daylight.

Comeaux eventually took a slight lead late in the fourth before NV rallied to retake the lead and get the win.

NV head coach Phillip Freeman said his club’s inexperience showed in allowing Comeaux back in the game.

“It was a brilliiant first half,” said Freeman. “It was a great third quarter too... It is what it is. Somebody has to step up.”

Delcambre played Comeaux in the consolation bracket on Tuesday.
