The courting and romance had been going on for awhile when Thanksgiving of 1961 rolled around. For Carol and Donald Badon it would also became their wedding day.
Donald was on his way to be deployed to Rapid City, South Dakota when the couple decided it would be the perfect time to get married and for the new bride to follow him and begin their life together.
Donald was 19 years old and Carol was 18 when the two were wed in 1961 at the home of the Methodist pastor’s home in Lake Arthur. Carol wore a light blue suit and Donald wore his Air Force uniform.
Carol and Donald recently celebrated fifty years of marriage. They were the guest of honor at a surprise anniversary party held for them by family and friends. The reception took place at the Knights of Columbus Hall on November 5, 2011 to honor their wedding date of November 23, 1961.
These days the Badon are best known for their indoor Christmas decorations and outdoor Christmas lighting.
Their Christmas enthusiasm has been a main attraction during the Holiday season in this area. Folks have traveled from miles around to view ‘The Badons’ Christmas welcome!
The Badon’s children are Joel Badon and Melanie Abshire. They have eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
