UL’s Gautier Tops All-Louisiana Team

Junior quarterback Blaine Gautier highlighted the 2011 All-Louisiana College Football Team announced the Louisiana Sports Writers Association on Sunday.

Gautier, who helped guide the Cajuns to their first bowl game and nine-win season in 40 years, was tabbed the 2011 state Offensive Player of the Year and first team honoree.

The Paulina, La. native broke both of Jake Delhomme’s single season records for passing touchdowns (23) and yards (2,958) in the Cajuns 32-30 win over San Diego State in R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Gautier threw for a career best 470 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

Joining Gautier on the All-Louisiana first team is tight end Ladarius Green. Green finished the season with 51 catches for 606 yards and eight touchdowns including 121 yards and a touchdown in the New Orleans Bowl. Green posted 22 receiving touchdowns as a Cajun, ranking second in school history behind Brandon Stokley.

The Ragin’ Cajuns also had six players tabbed to the All-Louisiana second team including offensive lineman Leonardo Bates, wide receiver Javone Lawson, defensive lineman Bernard Smith, linebacker Lance Kelley, cornerback Dwight “Bill” Bentley and kicker Brett Baer.
