“It was a total team effort,” head coach Kim Guidry of Vermilion Catholic said following the game. “Once we were able to get the lead we were able to compensate by doing different things like in practice.”
After opening up a 41-12 lead at halftime, Katie Frith put on a one-person scoring clinic in the third quarter to score eight of the Lady Eagle 10 points in the quarter. Mia LeBeouf scored the other two points of the quarter on an assist from Frith.
“This is the first game Katie’s (Frith) been able to play 100%,” coach Guidry said. “She sustained a concussion in the Yule Tide Tournament and missed a month. She had hasn’t been able to play since then.
“But, once we got the big lead, we started subbing.”
Frith scored her last basket of the game with 6:16 remaining and the Lady Eagles leading 53-16.
“VC’s got a really good squad,” head coach Randall Bertrand of Gueydan said following the game. “We just couldn’t match up with their height and dribbling ability.
“But, we’re young and if we work hard during the summer, we’ll be much better next year.
Frith lead all scores with 27 points. Kyrie Collins and Kalen Collins each contributed 6 points to the Lady Eagle win.
Kylie Crouchet led the Lady Bears with eight points. Anna Lafosse added another six points.
With the win the Lady Eagles improved to 23-4 and 4-1 in district. The Lady Bears fall to 5-16 on the season and 0-5 in district play.
