An up-and-down basketball season continues for the boys and girls from Delcambre, as both teams fell to Vermilion Catholic in Abbeville on Tuesday.

The Panthers lost to the Eagles 44-42 in overtime, while the Lady Eagles beat Delcambre 63-23.

The Lady Eagles took a commanding 16-2 lead in the first period and built that up to 28-8.

VC scored 18 points to the Lady Panthers’ 10 in the third period to eliminate any hopes the visitors may have had of a comeback.

VC’s Katie Frith led all scores with 16 points. Kaylen Collins scored 12 points for the Lady Eagles, Mikhyla Campbell had nine points, Claire David, Mia LeBeouf and Kyrie Collins got four points each and Katie Meaux, Ellen Langlinais, Natalie Camel and Regan David each had two points.

The Lady Panthers were led by Keely Broussard’s 14 points. Emily Romero had three points and Alexa Grossie, Tori Verret and Saige LeBlanc had two points apiece.

The Eagles and Panthers put on a show reminiscent of the game they played on January 20. That game went down to the wire also, but only required four periods for VC to edge Delcambre 62-58.

On Tuesday, the Eagles held a slim 13-10 lead after one quarter of play, but the Panthers held steady and trailed just 21-20 at the half.

Panthers Niles Francis and Carl Taylor came out of the break firing on all cylinders, scoring all of Delcambre’s 13, third-quarter points.

VC, meanwhile, scraped together just seven points in the third and found itself trailing 33-28 heading into the fourth period.

The Panthers went cold in the fourth, however, scoring just four points in the period to allow the Eagles to come backe and tie.

VC’s Emile Chiasson hit a deuce and Aaron David went 4-for-4 at the line in overtime to lead the Eagles to the win.

The Eagle Chiasson led all scorers with 16 points. David had 10 points, Joey Faulk nine points, Eric Patout got four points, Brennan Gallet had three points and Blair Landry got two points.

DHS was led by Taylors 15 points. Francis had nine points, Jace Dore scored eight points and Danson Solomon had six points.

The Eagles (13-11, 5-1) travel to face Ascension Episcopal (14-11, 3-3) on Friday.

The Panthers (9-19, 1-6) end their season at Jeanerette (6-17, 2-5), also on Friday.

The Lady Eagles (24-4, 4-1) host NV (17-8, 9-2) on Friday, while the Lady Panthers (5-21, 1-6) head to Jeanerette (2-17, 1-6).
