The Acadiana Symphony Chamber Orchestra will perform in Abbeville at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. Mariusz Smolij, music director, will conduction the 17-member chamber orchestra, including several violins and violas, two cellos, a bass, a flue, and a harpsichord.

The orchestra will be joined by the Voices of St. Mary Magdalen in Franz Schubert’s “Mass in G-Major” with Tommy Guidry, choral director, conducting. Soloists in the selection will be Beth Hebert, soprano, James Segrest, tenor, and Nathan Abbott, bass.

The Children’s Choir of St. Mary Magdalen will sing Dona Nobis Pacem, arranged and conducted by Guidry.

In addition, the orchestra will perform selections by Antonio Vivaldi and J.S. Bach and a surprising concerto by Peter Breiner in the style of F. Handel that richly carries melodies especially familiar to the members of the ‘Boomer’ generation. Attend and enjoy the surprise.

The performance will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome and admission is free.
