Shay LaPorte got the start and the win for the Eagles, pitching two complete innings. LaPorte allowed one hit and walked one.
Kameron Abshire absorbed the loss on the hill for Kaplan. He went three innings, allowing four hits and four walks versus four strike outs.
The Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings of play.
Etienne Trahan got a one-out double in the first for VC. Blair Landry was hit by a pitch to get on base.
Trahan scored on a Derek Broussard RBI single and Ryan Domingue plated Landry on a fielder’s choice.
VC got four runs in the frame and picked up three more in the second inning. Ryan David, Broussard and Aaron David scored those runs.
VC appeared to have things well under control, holding the 7-0 lead until the fifth when Kaplan let loose a six-run barrage.
With the bases of Pirates, Brady Mott started a chain of RBI singles for Kaplan.
Tre´ Choate, Lance LeBeouf, Abshire and Scott Russo got in on the action, and Kaplan trailed just 7-6 when VC’s Trahan got a strikeout to retire the side.
The Eagles would pick up insurance runs in the sixth and seventh to kill the Pirates’ comeback attempt.
Motte was 2-for-3 for Kaplan, while Choate went 3-for-4.
Landry, Broussard and Clay LeBlanc each scored two runs for VC.
Kaplan next plays Delcambre (4-4) in the Abbeville tournament on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Sellers Field in Abbeville.
VC plays Comeaux at the STM tournament, also on Thursday.
