Parish teams take part in weekend tournaments

Abbeville High hosted its annual baseball tournament this weekend, with several local teams taking part in the rain-shortened action.

After clobbering Northwest by a 19-2 margin on Thursday, the Wildcats had to wait until Saturday to continue play due to showers in the area. Abbeville lost to Church Point 5-0.

The Wildcats will get one more crack at Church Point on Tuesday, March 13, at Roy Theriot Field in A.A. Comeaux Park in Abbeville.

Bulldogs pitcher Grant Godeaux no-hit the Panthers, pitching six innings and striking out seven while walking six.

Blake Smith (1-2)picked up the loss on the hill for the Panthers. In four innings, Smith gave up three earned runs on six hits with two walks.

The Panthers (4-6)will look to rebound from the no-hitter hosting Hanson Memorial (6-5) on Tuesday.

Tournament

The Delcambre Lady Panthers hosted a tournament this weekend, as well, winning both of their games to improve to 6-7, 2-0 for the season.

The Lady Panthers played a double-header on Saturday, defeating Westgate 11-0 and then beating Cecilia 4-1 in the late game.

The Lady Panthers got five runs in the third and four in the fifth before scoring two in the sixth to cut the game short.

Emily LeBlanc got the start for Delcambre against Westgate, pitching six innings of three-hit ball to pick up the win.

Lindsey Whitman was 2-for-4 at the plate for Delcambre with four RBIs. Chlesea Baudoin was also 2-for-4, with three RBIs. Mikayla Viator went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.

Keely Broussard got the start and the win against Cecilia for Delcambre. Broussard pitched seven innings, giving up one earned run on seven hits while striking out one and walking one.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Cecilia. The Lady Bulldogs knotted it up at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning, but the Lady Panthers answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame to re-take the lead for good.

Payton LeBlanc and Viator were both 1-for-3 with an RBI in the game. Broussard helped out her own cause, going 2-for-4 at the plate and scoring two runs.

Currently ranked number 24 in Ken Ramsey’s unofficial power rankings, Delcambre has now won four-straight games and will head to New Iberia on Tuesday, March 13 for a District 6-2A clash with Catholic High (5-4, 2-0). Ramsey has Catholic High in the 16th position in his unofficial rankings.

The Lady Bobcats (3-10, 0-1) will look to get the goose egg out of the district win column on Tuesday, March 13, when they host the Abbeville Lady Wildcats (1-5, 1-1).

First pitch in Erath is set for 5 p.m.
