The VC boys and girls track teams will be competing in the Sugar Bowl Track and field Classic at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans.
VC boys head track coach George Veazey said the opportunity to compete in the event is meant to be a reward to VC’s athletes.
“They work hard,” Veazey said. “This is just a little reward to the kids for all the hard work that they put in.”
The meet in New Orleans is set to begin at 4 p.m. Friday. Events will continue at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and run until approximately 6:30 p.m. that evening.
Now in its 19th year of existence, the Sugar Bowl Track Classic features competitors from high schools from five different states.
Vermilion Catholic speedster Jacoby Davis will not compete in the event, as he recently pulled up in a race.
Veazey said withholding Davis from the meet is purely precautionary.
