In Vermilion Parish, more Democrats voted for other candidates than they voted for President Barack Obama, and the Republicans liked Rick Santorum.

Statewide, Obama had 74 percent of the votes, but in the parish had only garnered 42 percent.

There were 872 Democrats who voted Saturday, and 509 did not vote for Obama.

Obama had the majority but it was only 42 percent or 363 votes. Not far behind was John Wolf with 29 percent or 251 votes. Darcy Richardson had 136 votes and “Bob” Ely had 122 votes.

Vermilion Parish voted like the rest of Louisiana by helping Republican candidate Rick Santorum .

The state election was held Saturday and Santorum had just over 88,000 votes in the state and picked up 10 of the 20 delegates.

A total of 1,611 Republicans voted in the parish.

He had 897 votes or 56 percent of the votes in the parish. The second vote getter in the parish was Mitt Romney with 316 votes or 20 percent.

New Gingrich had 282 votes and Ron Paul had 90 votes.

Former Louisiana governor Buddy Roemer had only 13 votes.

A total of 2,100 people turned out to vote Saturday in the parish while 395 voted early.
