When the teams last met, on March 22, the Lady Pats upset the Lady Pirates 3-1 in Kaplan.
On Saturday, a determined Kaplan squad would not be denied.
Brittany LeBeouf pitched a complete game for the Lady Pirates to secure the win. She allowed four earned runs on six hits while walking three and striking out two.
Hannah Vidallier absorbed the loss in the circle for the Lady Patriots.
In seven innings of work, Vidallier gave up two earned runs on three hits while walking five and striking out three.
Kaplan jumped out to an early lead when Bailey Prejean, who had reached on a single, scored on an error to make the score 1-0 in the second inning.
Prejean then drove in Mallory Hebert with a base hit in the third and Ranase Frederick knocked an RBI single to plate Katie Ledoux, giving Kaplan a 3-0 advantage.
NV’s Brooke Dupuy had a fielder’s choice for an RBI in the bottom of the third inning. But,the Lady Pirates came back strong in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs to take a 7-1 advantage.
Randee Vincent led off the NV sixth with a solo home run. Lady Pat Taylor Meyers followed with another solo dinger in the seventh and Kyla Hebert scored on a Brittany Conner RBI single, but Kaplan held on for the win.
Conner was 2-for-3 for NV. Vincent was 1-for-3 and Meyers was 1-for-2.
Prejean was 2-for-2 for Kaplan. Hebert was 1-for-3 and Frederick was 2-for-3.
Kaplan (21-5, 11-1) next hosts 4A Cecilia (16-11, 7-3) on Tuesday, April 10.
NV (17-7, 11-1) hosts Iowa (19-5, 8-2), also on Tuesday.
