The top-four finishers in each event earned the right to compete in the Class 1A, Region 2 track meet on Tuesday, April 24 at the UL Track Complex in Lafayette for the chance to represent their schools in the state track meet.
Field events in Lafayette start at 2 p.m., while running events are set for a 6 p.m. start.
On the boys’ side, VC’s Jacoby Davis competed in track for the first time in several weeks. Davis, who was in top form, cruised to victory in the 100 meter (10.73) and 200 meter (22.31) dashes.
Davis, who also ran on VC’s first-place 4x200 and 4x100 meter relay teams, earned Outstanding Overall Performer honors for his efforts.
Ryan David, finished in second place in the 100 meters with a time of 11.23.
The Eagles’ 4x400 meter relay team (Mike Campbell, Dustin Desormeaux, Nate Silar, Matt Wilson) also earned a regional berth with a first-place time of 3:43.52.
VC’s Kyle Zenon threw the javelin 148-01 to place first. Zenon’s 134-01 discus throw also placed first and his 40-05 shot put was good for second place, behind his fellow Eagle Trey Ryder (41-09.5). Eric Patout placed second to Zenon in the discus with a 121.65 throw.
Lady Eagle Kyrie Collins placed first in the shotput with a throw of 29-09.5 effort. She also placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 76-09.
VC’s TJ LaFrance placed first in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.56 to clip teammate Nate Silar (17.17). LaFrance’s 300 meter hurdle time of 52.51 was good for second place behind VC’s Matt Wilson (42.43). Wilson also qualified for the pole vault with a third-place jump of 6-00.
Gueydan’s Casin Reed earned first place in the 300 meter dash (54.98) to earn a spot in the regional field.
Caitlyn Abshire, also of Gueydan High, earned a trip to Lafayette with a 21.41 100 meter hurdles time.
