On Wednesday, April 25, Vermilion Parish high school track athletes will put their skills to the test at their respective regional track meets.

The top three finishers in each event will earn the right to represent their schools at next week’s state track meets.

In Class 3A, athletes from Abbeville, Kaplan, Erath and North Vermilion high schools will be competing in the Region II meet at the UL Track Complex in Lafayette.

Field events in Lafayette are set for a 1 p.m. start time, with running to follow at 6:30 p.m.

In addition to the other schools from District 9-3A (Franklin, Patterson and Berwick), the local 3A athletes will compete with schools from districts 5-3A and 6-3A to earn a trip to the state meet.

The athletes in competition earned their spots in the regional meet by placing fourth or better in last week’s District 9-3A track meet in Abbeville.

Also on Wednesday, Delcambre High will be sending student-athletes to compete in the Class 2A, Region II meet at Episcopal-B.R. High School in Baton Rouge.

Field events at Episcopal-B.R. begin at 3 p.m., with running to follow at 5:30 p.m.

Delcambre, a member of District 6-2A, will also be competing with schools from districts 4-2A and 7-2A.

The representatives from DHS earned their spots in the regional meet in last week’s District 6-2A meet in Jeanerette.
