The killer of 71-year-old Rita “Theresa” Jordan is still on the streets of Vermilion Parish, and the Abbeville Police Department and everyone who knew her are asking the question of “why was she killed.”

“That is one of the biggest questions - why?,” said Lt. David Hardy of the Abbeville Police Department. “She was a private person. We have no motive at this point.”

Hardy did confirm she was stabbed multiple times and there was no forced entry into her house or anything stolen when they arrived Thursday at around 3 p.m.

The police department has made solving the murder of Jordan its number one priority.

“We are going to beat the streets of Abbeville,” said Lt. David Hardy of the Abbeville Police Department. “We do not plan to leave one stone unturned.”

Since the Thursday murder, detectives have been calling on their sources and talking to people in the neighborhood to see if anyone knows something.

So far, nothing solid. Phone calls have been coming in with possible leads and the department is checking on every lead, Hardy added.

Rev. Michael Wright of Greater Pleasant Green Baptist Church was contacted Saturday by someone in the community who donated money as a reward to help find the killer. Rev. Wright has contacted other churches and organizations for donated money to help build the reward fund.

Jordan, also known in the neighborhood as “Mrs. Theresa” is not even a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church. However, her home is located right behind the church.

“This happened in our backyard,” Rev. Wright said. “People are afraid because it happened in our community.”

He said he brought the killing up during his sermons on Sunday and asked that the parishioners pray for Jordan and pray the killer turns himself or herself in to the police.

She will be buried Thursday in Pleasant Green Cemetery. Services are at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville.

Fletcher Funeral Home in Abbeville is handling the funeral arrangements.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 9:00 A.M. Thursday at the church until time of funeral service.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters; Waldean Jordan of Abbeville, La., and Tracy Jordan of Houston, Tx.; three grandchildren, Mashyla G. Landry Damian Landry, and Kelly Allen of Abbeville, La. and Serik Jordan of Houston, Tx.; one great-grandson Westin Landry of Abbeville, La.; five sisters:Alzena Guidry, Katy Walker, Cathy Walker, Terry Walker, and Rachael Walker; three brothers: Gerald Ardoin, Otis Walker, and Avery Walker, Jr. as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
