Searle, 83, told board members and administrators of the VPSB that he is turning in his resignation immediately as of June 21, and does not plan to fulfil the rest of his 2 1/2 year term.
Searle said his 17 1/2 years on the board was an unforgettable experience, both professionally and personally. He stated he was proud to have served the people who elected him and proud of the work he accomplished during his time. He also stated he has worked with many boards and feels that leaving at this time, with the board at hand, is at good time to leave.
More personally, Searle stated, “ My wife and I have discussed the matter and both feel it’s just time to go, and I feel right now is a good time”. “There’s no special reason, but, with all the recent changes in the education system, the school board’s work in the future will be limited, and I feel I am leaving at a good point”.
Tim LeBlanc, teacher at Gueydan High School stated, “I wish him [Searle] well. I think he’s has always done what’s best for the students and teachers at Gueydan High, the community and the people who elected him.”
Searle’s recommendation for his replacement is G.L. “Skip” Gardiner. Gardiner is a retired teacher and administrator from Gueydan. Searle feels Gardiner is more than capable for the job.
Hebert excited about promotion
Paul Hebert, the principal at Kaplan Elementary, was named the future assistant superintendent of the Vermilion Parish School Board.
He will be in charge of personnel and administration, which is what Charlotte Waguespack is presently in charge of. She will be retiring of January of 2013. However, Hebert will not take over the position until July of 2013. Superintendent Randy Schexnayer, in January of 2013, will step down as superintendent and take over Waguesback position until the summer of 2013.
Hebert, 44, was named the assistant superintendent Thursday night at the school board meeting.
“I’m excited,” said Hebert on Friday. He said he is looking forward to working with more students and teachers on a parish level instead of just at Kaplan Elementary.
Hebert, who lives in Maurice, be the principal of Kaplan Elementary for another year.
