GUEYDAN - One local women with a special connection to cancer will not only be talking the talk but she will literally be walking the walk.

Millie Vondenstein has committed to walk 60 miles in three days to honor all the women in our community that have heard the words “you have breast cancer”.

Vondenstein is very familiar with that horrible phrase. She herself had to hear the words “you have cancer”. Fortunately her cancer was found early through an annual mammogram and treated with surgery and radiation. In her case the early detection most likely saved her life. She states, “It was an inconvenience, not life threatening, but definitely a life changing experience”.

Vondenstein is preparing for a physical and emotional challenge by participating in the 2012 Susan G. Komen Dallas 3-Day walk. Vondenstein and her fellow participants understand that breast cancer knows no boundaries, so committing to raise $2300 and walking 60 miles in three days is an important step in helping to rid the world of this horrible disease. She has set her sights high and would like to reach her goal of raising the money by Labor Day.

Vondenstein’s daughter, Marlene Broussard Robinson, of Benton, will be walking along side of her mother for these special three days.

The 3-Day Walk will take place in Dallas on November 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

She is married to Bobby Joe Watzil and is the mother of two daughters Marlene Broussard and Amy Broussard and step mother of Kay Watzil.
