The Gazette contacted local legislators, Representative Bernard LeBas and Senator Eric LaFleur to see if they thought about asking the legislature to increase our local sales tax to 10 percent. LeBas said he’s open-minded. “I’d listen, but I need to know more about it before I make a decision.”

LaFleur said he’d certainly consider it, but at the end of the day, it would still come down to voters approving a tax, whether it was a millage or a sales tax. He said the legislature would not meet again until the Spring of 2009, so it’d probably be late next year before a tax election to increase a sales tax could be brought to the voters.
