The Gueydan High School 7th & 8th grade boys basketball team had an outstanding season this year capping a 12-2 record with winning the Vermilion Parish Middle School Basketball Tournament.

The tournament was held at Indian Bayou Elementary from January 12-15, 2009.

The tournament started Tuesday with Gueydan defeating Erath Middle with a score of 48-28.

Gueydan then played North Vermilion on Wednesday and defeated the Patriots with a score of 53-50. The finals were held on

Thursday night with Gueydan playing J.H. Williams Middle school from Abbeville. Gueydan soundly defeated J.H. Williams with a score of 37-29 to claim the title of Parish Champions. This is the first time Gueydan Middle has ever won the boys title.

Trevor Derouen was highest scorer in all three tournament games with 16 points against Erath, 25 points against North Vermilion and 14 against J.H. Williams.
