A young couple, like many others, was looking forward to one of life’s most important and happiest events.

Jacqueline Daniels and Ross Richard were making plans for a life together, and were deep into details of planning their wedding. “Jackie” as she is more familiarly known by her family and friends, is formerly from Gueydan and Ross is a Kaplan native.

Without warning, Ross was suddenly struck with paralyzing Guillian-Barre Syndrome. Therapists on a

Rehab unit worked hard to help the future bridegroom to fulfill his dream of walking his bride down the aisle.

A little over a month later, the patient took his first steps.

Nurses and doctors in the rehab unit celebrated by throwing the couple a pre-nuptial ceremony complete with flowers, candies and a steak dinner.

Both Jackie and Ross, who soon expect to announce their future plans, credit the staff of Lafayette General Medical Center for the expert care and for

“going beyond what was expected of them.”
