ERATH - There is a chance there could be another Byler walking on the sidelines as the new head football coach at Erath High School.

Tommy Byler, the son of former EHS head coach Jacob Byler, applied for the vacant position at Erath High.

Tommy has been at Erath High for the last 18 years, helping his dad coach along the sidelines. He is also the athletic director and head softball coach at the school.

With Byler applying, it brings the total Erath applications to eight.

Two new ones to apply are Destin Dieterich, a coordinator at St. Martinville High and Christopher Towery, who is at Livonia.

Applying earlier in the week for EHS were Larry Breaux, an assistant coach at Acadiana High School, John Fontenot, who is coaching in Orange Beach, Fla. and Charlie Cryer, who is an assistant coach at Northwest High in St. Landry Parish, Alton Ware, head coach and athletic director at Bolton, and Pickering head coach/AD James Marcantel.

The list continues to grow at Abbeville High.

Ware, Marcantel, Dieterich and Towery also applied at Abbeville High School.

Joining them are Jeanerette head coach and AD Terry Washington.

Coaches have until Friday at 4 p.m. to apply.

At the Jan. 8 school board meeting, a head coach will be named at Abbeville and Erath.
