The District 6-2A Track Meet was the staging ground for several local athletes to qualify for the Regional Track Meet, which was held this week, depending on how much rain would come down at East Beauregard High School. The SHHS girls placed second on the district meet overall. They got two first-place finishes at the event. Samantha Davenport won the 300-meter hurdles and Taylor McCauley took first in the javelin throw. Sacred Heart nabbed two second place spots. Kelsey Enicke was second in the discus throw and Hannah Enicke was second in the 100-meter hurdles.
Six third-place spots helped the SHHS girls maintain a top-two ranking. Courtney Soileau placed third in the high jump and Macie Lafleur was third in the 100-meter hurdles. Kaitlin O’Shee was third in the discus throw behind Enicke and Kelsey Jagneaux was third in the shot put.
The 4-by-200-meter relay team of Davenport, Ali Link, Lyndsey Schexnayder and Lauren Poche and the 4-by-400-meter relay team of Poche, Davenport, Schexnayder and Sadie Costanza took third in their respective events.
Several fourth place finishes also helped the girls of SHHS. Abigail Enicke placed fourth in the triple jump and Meagan Wedlock was fourth in the one-mile run. Davenport was fourth in the 100-meter run and Link placed fourth in the 200-meter run. Youngster Hannah Enicke took a fourth-place spot in the 300-meter hurdles, while Sarah Fontenot was fourth in the two-mile run.
Cade McDaniel led the charge for the SHHS boys in their district campaign. He won the 300-meter hurdles and placed second in the 110-meter hurdles. He was a member of the 4-by-400-meter relay team that placed third. Other members of that team included Michael Vidrine, Kyle Fontenot and David Daire. Daire also managed a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run.
Good luck to all Evangeline Parish Track and Field athletes in the upcoming meets.
