Only the post office in Maurice will close its window at noon on Friday.
The post offices in Abbeville, Kaplan, Erath and Gueydan will remain open all day on Friday.
On Saturday, July 4, all post offices will be closed in observance of Independence Day.
There will be no regular mail delivery on July 4. Only Sunday/Holiday Premium Express Mail will be delivered. Regular mail delivery, retail services and collections will resume on Monday.
Daisy Comeaux of the U.S. Post Office said the reason the larger post offices will remain open is based on the amount of business they had last year for the Fourth of July.
She said a year ago Maurice had little business this time last year, so in order to save the U.S. Post Office money and help its employees, it will close at noon.
On the other hand, post offices in Abbeville, Erath, and Kaplan had high volumes of activity the day before the Fourth of July last year, so they will remain open.
