Magdalen Square is expected to be rocking Thursday when Cajun musician Richard LeBouef cranks it up for the Sounds on the Square event.

He is expected to play from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and admission is free. Refreshments will be sold in the Square and the proceeds will benefit “Save the Frank’s.”

This will be the third Thursday the Sounds on the Square takes place. The event is sponsored by the city, and it is free to the public.

Last Thursday a record number of people crowded into the Square to hear the band, “The Trio.” The band, Beau Young, Paul Piazza and Jacob Landry, entertained people until 9 p.m.

Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza said he had to tell the band to stop at 9 p.m. despite a crowd.

“The crowd last week was more than I expected,” Piazza said “I expect even a larger crowd with Richard LeBouef.”

The city streets around Magdalen Square are expected to remain open despite the large crowd.

The final Thursday for the musical event will be Oct. 1. Crawdaddy and the Crustaceans will play.
